Halo 3: Map breakdowns
Map Breakdowns
My observations and some of my strategies for the many maps of Halo 3. Hopefully this will help newbies and experienced players alike. I like to read/see other players strategies/ideas. They don’t always lead to me dominating, even though they sometimes do, but I’ll always try them just to see if they can help. A lot of times a very minor change will lead to getting three or four more kills/less deaths which also leads to more wins.
The Pit
This is one of the most common team maps in the game and is very symmetric sides. Power weapons on the map are the sword, rockets and two snipers. there are two turrets on the map, located on a platform above the sniper spawn, and it’s littered with battle rifles and plasma grenades among other weapons, including two shotguns. There is an overshield under the sword spawn and an invisibility power up in the middle of the map. Each tower has a regenerator (equipment) on top. While it seems like this map is made for close quarters combat, it lends itself to rifle use. There are several long corridors and each side has a good chunk of open space. In regular slayer games, you shouldn’t run around this map with your sword or shotgun out because most battles will start from mid-range.
Carnage pits: The rocket spawn, especially at the beginning of a game, will be littered with lots of lifeless bodies. I’ve seen them pile up under the sword spawn, where the overshield is, too. The sword spawns inside a room in a bunker on one side of the map. the entrance to the room is protected, but there are three entrances into the bunker with tight corridors leading to the room that lend themselves to multi-kill zones.
Guardian
A predominately free-for-all map, Guardian has recently been mixed into Team Slayer a lot more. This is a good map, similar to H2′s Lockout, but with plenty of it’s own quirks. The mancannons scattered throughout the multi-tiered level make for more ambushes and there are plenty of corners for people to turn around and directly into the nose of your shotgun. The power weapons on this map are: Sniper and Gravity Hammer. The sniper rifle is located under the base directly across from the base with the big gold lift. A long corridor between the sniper and the lift leads to many sniping opportunities and the gravity hammer is located in a room in the middle of the corridor. There is a very effective shotgun and a needler as well as a couple Maulers on the level. There are overshield, above sniper spawn, and invisibility, left of the gold lift room, power-ups and a bubble shield (equipment). There are plenty of plasma grenades on this level and they seem to respawn quickly, don’t be afraid to use them. I consider them almost as important as the power weapons on this map.
Carnage pits: It’s such a small map that there aren’t a lot of safe spots. The middle courtyard usually ends up bloody thanks to battlers in the middle and shooters from raised platforms/entrances on each base side. Personally, the most action happens around the sniper spawn base. The three-tiered base houses the sniper on the bottom level, overshield on the second, a mauler on one ramp, a needler on another, two stickies and a Covenant Carbine. It’s a natural place for the hammer grabber to go and get a couple kills and a skilled sniper can fire down the bottom corridor and hop up to snipe across the main courtyard and into top and bottom gold lift rooms. This strategy, of course, draws attackers trying to usurp the power weapon holders. Multi-kill time.
