NFL Playoff picks
Picks for Sunday’s NFL playoff games.
Too late to pick today’s contests — I would have picked the Packers and the Jaguars just for clarification.
Sunday
Chargers at Colts, 1 p.m.
The Colts were the quietest 13-3 defending Super Bowl Champions in history, thanks to those damn (dominant) Patriots. Chargers are one of the hottest teams coming out of the regular season and through last week’s playoff.
My pick, the Colts. What puts them over the top is their everything. They have a more diverse offense, the defensive player of the year in safety Bob Sanders and a great coach in Tony Dungy. Plus Peyton Manning to Reggie Wayne/Marvin Harrison is too good for the Chargers to stop for an entire game.
It could be argued that San Diego’s defense coupled with LaDainian Tomlinson’s running will be able to pull back the reigns on the Colts. I’m not buying it.
Giants at Cowboys, 4:30 p.m.
Giants win. As a New york fan I’m a little biased, but I’m going to back this big talk up. First off, the whole Tony Romo-Jessica Simpson thing — Sporting News is referring to it as Tonica — shouldn’t play a factor, but it could be huge. Also, the Giants only have one road loss this year and are playing confident — and by that I mean Eli Manning is playing confident. Is Terrell Owens going to play?
Don’t get me wrong, I think the Cowboys are the best or second best team in the NFC. I think Tony Romo is a young Brett Favre clone playing in a tremendous offense and is backed by a solid defense. I just think there are a lot of circumstances that point to the Giants winning this battle.
Not that it matters, the original Brett Favre is having a magical season that doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop until it meets one of those AFC juggernauts in the Super Bowl.
