A Giants fan said what?

Years from now when people refer to the 2007 New England Patriots as the greatest NFL team of all time they’ll be right on the money.

I’m saying that now, days before Super Bowl 42, not even caring about what the outcome will be. The Patriots will probably win, even though my New York Giants played them close in the final game of the regular season.

Even though the Jaguars and Chargers each exposed some minor flaws in this monstrosity of a football team. I think they’ll win. Until I witness something to the contrary, I’m picking Bill Belichek when he’s given two weeks to prepare for one opponent.

The Giants get to meet the Patriots two weeks after their offense looked low-octane against the Chargers and three weeks after their defense looked penetrable against the Jaguars. There’s still hope here, it’s like the Giants were a team built to break the Patriots war machine.

Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw can run the clock, the defense is built to brutalize quarterbacks and the Eli Manning-to-Plaxico Burress combo has been an absolutely deadly big-play combo.

I have faith in them, I will root for them to the end, but realistically I know they’re meeting a team of destiny. They’ve beaten 18 consecutive opponents. That’s just mindblowing. Think about it. Nobody has beaten them for 19 consecutive weeks of football. Considering the kind of team-intensive sport football is — if one of 22 starters on the field doesn’t do their job you can get beat — what they’ve done is incredible.

While I’m in awe of what they’ve been able to do, I do have one question to ask the NFL. Who let the Patriots get Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth and Adalius Thomas all in the same year? C’mon guys, you gotta try harder than that.

Sorry readers, I still haven’t really expressed my joy in the New York Giants’ championship. If I don’t get to one before the start of the NFL season, I’ll surely pop one out then.
