Site update

Added a few things to the site today, yesterday and last week. There’s more on the way.

Welcome to touchdown my pants, fhw6969 and Jay-Mo who are now contributors to the site. When they log in next time, they can write up blogs for me to review and post.

Now for details on the other stuff:

First, the already implemented items:

• A “Previously on SP…” listing is now at the top of the right sidebar. Sorry, no Keifer Sutherland voice, or 24 countdown noise. This seemed like something that was originally unnecessary. But when stuff is posted I want to make sure everyone has a chance to see it — especially if I get some contributions from others.
• The new graphic strip above the content was a real bugger to get on the page, but it’s there now.
• The favicon is that little “SP” icon next the URL in your browser and on the browser tab. You’ll find it on the forums page as well.
• Speaking of forums, I placed a new poll in the video games section and a section for tournament of beauties discussion. Feel free to visit. The boards have been lonely for a while. Members can post polls and start discussions about a number of topics. If there’s a board or section you want opened, leave a comment here or email me at xep44@sloppypotatoes.com.
• The link and the strip helped set up a color scheme. I have it set up with Orange and Blue, kind of Auburny, but was contemplating a couple other designs. Now that I know where I have to go to change colors I should be able to change things easily. My other color scheme ideas were blue and yellow or red and yellow. Leave a comment and let me know which colors you would like to see.
• Countdown timers, at right, show the number of days until… Pretty cool, hopefully you guys can give me some ideas for some funny stuff to put on there. (Leave a comment)
• Most of you know the inaugural tournament, the Tournament of Beauties, is live. If you haven’t voted yet, go vote now.

Stuff that’s in the works:

• Another tournament coming soon
• I keep promsing fantasy sports stuff and don’t deliver. I will deliver on some fantasy baseball stuff this preseason. No, really, I will.
• Speaking of fantasy baseball, I’m going to import my stuff from Ye Olde Sloppy Potatoes site. The content includes some outdated preseason rankings — so you can see how awful, err, awesome I did — and some “expert” advice columns.
• I’m also going to import some video game reviews from the old site as well. They are quite lengthy. I’ll pare them down a little.
• I started moving some pages into Parent Pages — for example, you’ll now find the 360voice.com page under video games — and I’m going to create more to make navigating the site even easier.
• An opinion piece about the New York Giants winning the Super Bowl
• A page about owning/designing a Web site.
• A Contact SP page
