Gears of War 2 video
Awesmoe, completely awesmoe
If you’ve played the first game, you probably already clicked the video to see what the second game has in store.
If you haven’t played the first game, here’s a quick, spoiler-free recap of some of the things you missed. Machine gun with a chainsaw on it for slicing and dicing, cool graphics, outstanding gameplay, not much more than an intro story, cover mechanic, over-the-shoulder shooting, interesting take on the overplayed space marine genre, different but very fun multiplayer, huge bosses, stupid Dom (you’ll get it if you play on any reasonable difficulty).
I played Gears of War I a lot and even enjoyed the multiplayer, which is saying a lot since it only had team modes.
As for the new vid, there is at least one new mechanic and a couple weapons that have me intrigued.
The whole, use and enemy as a meat shield is pretty cool, then again, so is the snapping of the neck of said enemy when finished.
I believe I saw at least two new weapons: A rifle and a piston. The pistol seems fully automatic with a very high, incapacitating rate of fire. I only hope they nerf it some for multiplayer. I also am pretty sure i saw a rifle, or at least a long-range shotgun.
I’m stoked about there being at least one Brumak battle. The towering beast with the tank barrel strapped to its back is a Brumak, for the uninitiated.
There also appears to be a large number of locusts on one screen. Hopefully the battles open up a little more this time around. In the last game, engagements were for the most part isolated. A couple large-scale shootouts would rock.
The potential here is very exciting.
Can you wait for this game’s release in November? Or could you care less about Gears? Leave a comment below.
