THE LIST: 5 Movies I can’t not watch

I’ll just watch this scene…
This is by no means a list of the five "best movies of all time." In fact, these aren’t even my five favorite movies of all-time. These are movies that currently make their rounds on cable television. De-cussed and edited, these movies aren’t quite as good as their video releases, but for some reason when they’re on I’ve got to watch at least a scene, or until the next commercial … and sometimes the whole thing.
- Jurassic Park: This movie’s been getting a lot of play on AMC recently and I can’t flip past it. This movie and it’s realistic looking dino scenes evoked awe and wonder when I first watched it. I also love the characters, Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm, Sam Niell as the dinosaur guy, the foreign tough-guy park ranger, Seinfeld’s Newman and Samuel L. Jackson as computer operators.
Bull Durham: My favorite baseball movie ever. Great baseball scenes and great comedy makes this a near perfect movie. Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins and Kevin Costner are lead characters who absolutely make this movie great and share the role of protagonist for a lot of the movie. The hilarious interactions on the field, particularly between Nuke and Crash, crack me up.- Ocean’s Eleven: From the time Clooney and Pitt start trading one-liners while playing cards with real celebrities this movie is on and doesn’t slow down. It’s just an enjoyable, fun romp that’s well-paced with an ensemble cast, also including Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle and Matt Damon. Again it’s the characters and their interactions that make it enjoyable. There’s enough humor and smarts in this film to make it a must-own DVD in my opinion.
- Old School: Yeah. If you’ve seen this, and you get it, you get why this movie is on
this list. If you haven’t seen it for any reason, please do. Another ensemble cast that works well together in a film filled with constant gags and witty one-liners. Like Ocean’s Eleven you can pick this movie up from any point in the plot and get a handful of laughs until the end. Also, catch it in the middle and you have a chance to see Elisha Cuthbert in panties. They really have to edit it for TV, so make sure you see the DVD version at some point, to see the KY wrestling match and here Vince Vaughn’s wit in unedited form.
Any Bourne Movie: Okay, this is a bit of a cheat, right, because it encompasses three movies. Yeah, but each movie has pretty much the same sequence of events. Dude can’t remember who he is. Dude runs from people. Dude fights hand-to-hand, then runs from authorities. People are searching for dude, so dude runs some more and gets into a few more fights. Yes I like the overall storyline of the trilogy and I think the Bourne Ultimatum is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, but if you flip to it on TV mid-movie you’re not watching it for the story. You want to see one of the high impact fight scenes or car/foot chases.
Agree? Disagree? What movies can’t you flip past? Comment below.
