THE LIST: Fantasy Baseball Style-Top 5 last week
Ever just stop and take a look at the five best fantasy players for a given week? Sloppy Potatoes does.
The top five fantasy baseballers over the last week are an interesting mix. There are no pitchers here, but a rookie, new stars and old stars dominated the scene.
1. Evan Longoria, 3B, TB: Yep, the rookie is cranking it. He’s hitting .424 in his seven-game hit streak and has 47 RBIs and 41 runs this year. If only I would have picked him
up. Sadly, he’s not on one of my four teams.
2. Bobby Abreu, OF, NYY: A 1.478 OPS in just 19 at-bats is pretty impressive. 2 HRs, 9 RBIs and 5 walks. Bonus: One player who has him in one of my leagues is an absolute Yankee-hating Orioles fan.
3. Dustin Pedroia, 2B, BOS: Yeah, this one might be the most interesting. Pedroia’s a small guy, not known for crushing pitches. But, the diminutive star is 19-for-32 in a recent seven-game hit streak. He has a .556 average the last week, with a 1.386 OPS.
4. Jermaine Dye, OF, CWS: Remember when Dye was the hot upcoming rookie and didn’t meet expectations. Well since then he’s put up some very respectable numbers. He’s now 34 and thumping the baseball. He’s currently on a 10-game hit streak, with five multi-hit games over the stretch. He’s also got an impressive 18 homers, 49 RBIs and 49 runs this season. Not bad numbers a few weeks before midseason. Why do i never pick this guy? Why don’t people pick him
higher?
5. Carl Crawford, OF, TB: This is the only guy you really expect to see on a list like this. Longoria’s too young. Abreu’s supposed to be overrated. Pedroia’s too small. Dye’s too old. Crawford, a five-tool talent, has the least impressive batting average of the week out of this bunch at .267. But he’s been mashing since returning from his suspension. Since his mid-season vacation, Crawford is 15-for-38 with four homers and 11 RBIs.

Just so everyone’s aware, my favorite league uses a scoring system that is a little more complex than the traditional 5×5, accounting for such things as fielding percentage and double plays grounded into. Tomorrow I will review why I prefer complex systems to the common 5×5s.
Keep up the good work.
