How will you celebrate Bungie Day 2008?
Bungie has a serious thing for 7/7 every year,
and all Halo fans should love them for it.
Like last year, the developer is giving away free Xbox 360 gamerpics (the above images are the ones used for explanation on www.bungie.net) and a theme to commemorate the special day. New multiplayer map Cold Storage is also releasing for free today. It really is like Christmas in July.
More about Cold Storage after the break.
Cold Storage is a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved map Chill Out. I would assume, like the other remakes in the series, the map will be as awesome as the original fan favorite with a few tweaks to make it even better.
Below is a screenshot of the new Halo 3 map from www.bungie.net:
Looks like it’s going to rock. I’ll be downloading it, and the free stuff. I’ll post impressions about Cold Storage as soon as I get a chance to wander around in it and shoot some dudes.
One last shot I’ll borrow from www.bungie.net is an overview of the map with the preloaded weapon/power-up. They, like in every other Halo 3 map, can be changed through Forge.
Update:
Almost forgot one of the most important parts of today’s extravaganza. For those of you who have resisted the urge to purchase the Legendary Map Pack, wait no more. Microsoft is dropping the price from 800 points to 600 points. Lockout, err, Blackout is calling. You know you miss her and she’s dying to see you again.
Another update:
Downloaded the stuff, including the video documentary about the map. Good stuff all, but I haven’t tried out the map yet. One bad thing, depending on what side of the tracks you’re on. You can’t use the free map in matchmaking unless you have already paid for the Legendary Pack. Yes, it dropped in price, but a free map that you can’t play unless you pay for other stuff sounds kinda sneaky to me. Well, at least you get to play it in local multiplayer. It is recommended for 6-to-8 player free-for-alls.
