Who’s No. 1? It’s LT, don’t even question it

While I think the Minnesota Viking’s Adrian Peterson is a great running back, he’s got too many question marks surrounding him to pick him No. 1 over the San Diego Chargers’  Ladainian Tomlinson.

Why stick with reliable LT over flashy AP? Click through the break

There’s something to be said for consistency in fantasy football, as in, good luck finding it. Injuries are expected, all fantasy players just hope it doesn’t happen on the day we need to clinch a playoff spot, or worse, in the playoffs. LT provides Ironman like consistency and performs at a high level nearly every game.

Here are some stats to chew on:

  • LT has never missed a regular season game (meaning every fantasy game through the championship) in 7 years as a pro.
  • During his three years in college and one year as a pro Peterson has played every game of only one season, his phenomenal freshman year at Oklahoma. He played only 31 of 39 games in college and missed two games last year, his first as a pro.
  • LT has run for more than 1,200 yards and scored at least 10 rushing TDs in every season of his pro career. He averages 1,521 yards and 16 TDs rushing per season. He’s also a significant threat in the passing game, scoring 14 career TDs with a 100-catch season and a 79-catch season under his belt.
  • AP’s numbers are amazing. He blew up for 1,341 yards and 13 total TDs last year in only 14 NFL games. And when he was healthy, he was a phenomenal running back in college. Peterson scored 42 TDs and rushed for 4,045 yards in three injury-riddled seasons.

Peterson is not a bad pick in any way. In fact, his upside makes him a phenomenal pick and the No. 1 overall selection in a keeper league draft. But, until LT misses a game, Peterson should be a consolation prize for whoever gets the No. 2 pick.
