August 28th, 2008 by ep

Thanks to the huge number of schools, players, and coaches, there is always drama in college football. Forget your favorite cable television station — that is probably repeating the same movie for the 473rd time this month — tune in to the NCAA gridiron for these gems:

College Football: 9 reasons to rejoice

Here we are at the start of another football season. Days of heat exhaustion and dehydration in late-summer sun will soon be replaced by more wintry weather as we cheer our teams on to the postseason.

I’m personally a huge fan of the NFL, much more than the NCAA, but that doesn’t mean I won’t watch college ball. In fact, I love college football. Here are 9 reasons why you should love it to:

Vacation ramblings and some links

August 18th, 2008 by ep

Bull Durham Today is the final day of one of the most awesome vacations on record. So much done, but so little done. Among the things I wanted to do was beat a videogame. I have about 800 or so that are on a will-finish pile, dating back to the PS2, GameCube and Xbox.

I played a couple games of NCAA Football 09, a little Geometry Wars 2 and when a friend stopped over we played a little Halo 3, Gears of War and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 multiplayer, but for the most part I did not really sit down for a gaming session. Geometry Wars 2 rocks hard

Another gem on Xbox Live ArcadeGeowars2

I don’t think I’ve explained on these pages how awesome the original Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved was. I logged countless hours of just-one-more games, long into the night. The game cost me many hours of sleep and I have a bad feeling Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 is going to do the same thing.

I only played the game for about 45 minutes, but over that time unlocked four different game modes and every one of them enjoyable.

The basics

In case you did not play the original, enemies are several geometric shapes of different colors. They all move and attack in different ways and as the game progresses the enemies come in larger, more frequent waves. It’s like space invaders on steroids, even though you can move in any direction with the left joystick and fire in any direction with the left. Smart bombs on the right trigger.
